Methodist Women’s Soccer Ties Salem, 1-1, on Wednesday

Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - After seizing a one-goal lead in the first half, the MU women's soccer team ended up tying visiting Salem, 1-1, after two overtimes on Wednesday afternoon at the Monarch Soccerplex.
 
Cassie Poindexter tallied the game's first score on a pass from Alex Walter at the 39:53 mark, giving the Monarchs (1-2-1) a 1-0 edge that they would carry into the break at halftime. Salem (2-0-2) came back in the second half, using Mackenzie Schmidt's header past MU goalkeeper Sarah Hayden to knot things up, 1-1, in 61st minute. Stephanie Hubbard earned the assist on the goal.
 
Methodist nearly won the matchup in the first overtime as Katie Pedersen headed a shot at point-blank range that SC goalkeeper Paige Ketchum saved.
 
The game finished in a tie despite the Monarchs' 19-3 advantage in terms of shots. MU's Hayden (1-1-1) made zero saves on the day. The Spirits' Ketchum (1-0-2) stopped 10 shots overall.
 
Methodist will play next on Saturday afternoon against visiting St. Mary's (Md.) at noon.
