Methodist Volleyball Splits Pair of Matches at Hollins Invitational

HOLLINS, Va. -- The Methodist volleyball team split a pair of matches on Friday evening at Hollins University as part of the Green Invitational.
 
The Monarchs fell to St. Mary's (Md.), 3-0, to open the day and then battled back to take a 3-2 decision from Hollins in the nightcap.
 
St. Mary's knocked off MU (3-3), 26-24, 25-14, 25-21 to begin play. Allison Graves led the offense with 11 kills on the match. Risa Smith had 15 assists while Karly Klimas and Emily Krochmal led the defense with 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
 
Against Hollins, the Monarchs dropped the first set, 25-23, before winning the next two, 25-19, 25-18 to take a 2-1 lead. HU knotted the match up at 2-2 with a 25-23 win in the fourth set before the Monarchs prevailed, 15-10, in the decisive fifth set.
 
Graves led the way with 23 kills and added 14 digs. Krochmal had 18 kills to go with 15 digs and Smith directed the offense to the tune of 50 assists. Klimas had a team-high 21 digs. Smith and Graves each had three service aces as well.
 
Methodist is back in action on Saturday when it takes on Emory & Henry at 10:30 am, followed by a 12:30 pm match against Virginia Intermont.
