Box Score MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The Methodist women's basketball team saw its seven-game winning streak end as it lost to Maryville, 76-44, on Saturday afternoon at Boydson Baird Gym, MU's largest margin of defeat since a 78-35 loss to Christopher Newport on Feb. 10, 2013.

The Scots (10-3, 3-1 USA South) continued their string of success in the head-to-head series with the Monarchs (7-2, 3-1 USA South), claiming their seventh straight victory in as many meetings.

Facing its largest halftime deficit this season (37-24), Methodist struggled to put together a steady stream of offense in the second period as Maryville went on a 24-6 run over an eight-plus-minute stretch to go ahead by 31 points (61-30), capped by Lauren Trent's successful three-point shot at the 11:22 mark. By that point, MU had made 3-of-10 second-half shots from the floor and turned the ball over four times. In comparison, MC connected on 8-of-14 field-goal second-half field-goal attempts, including a trio of three-pointers. When the game clock expired, the Monarchs ended the day having made only 8-of-31 second-half field-goal attempts (.258) while the Scots hit 15-of-32 (.469).

To start the afternoon, the game remained tight for the first four minutes of play as the score was dead even, 4-4. Maryville started to seize control, however, rattling off 24 of the contest's next 37 points to take an 11-point lead (28-17) with 7:17 remaining in the first half. Seven unanswered points by Methodist would draw the visitors within five points (29-24) after an Ayanna Pegues layup at the 6:33 mark, but that would be the closest MU would come to catching up with MC.

Overall the Monarchs hit on 32.7 percent of their shots from the field (18-55), and the Scots made 45.2 percent of their field-goal attempts (28-62).

Jackie Lyles had a team-high 11 points to go along with five rebounds for Methodist, and Pegues added eight points and six boards. Jalisia Campbell pulled down a team-best nine rebounds, and Maya Banks had eight points.

Trent led MC with 13 points, and Mackenzie Puckett totaled 12 points and six boards. Lailah Farmer added 10 points.

Methodist will conclude its three-game road swing when it travels to play Meredith on Wednesday. Start time is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
