MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Methodist women's soccer team earned its eighth conference win of this season with a 3-0 victory over Huntingdon, Sunday afternoon at the Hawks' home field. Sunday's game saw the Green and Gold improve to 9-5-2 overall and 8-1-2 in USA South Conference play, while Huntingdon fell to 2-16 and 1-10 in the league.
The Monarch offense dominated the whole match, registering 26 shots with 15 on frame. Defense held up their end of the bargain as well, not allowing HC to take a single shot.
Jordan Ray put the Monarchs on the board, 1-0, at the 29:37 mark, netting an unassisted strike, which would serve as the only goal of the first period.
In the second half,
Deycasha Miller gave Methodist a 2-0 advantage with a goal off an assist from Taylor Cavasos at the 61:35 mark.
The Monarchs quickly struck again, as
Jasmine Newman notched her second goal of the season following a feed from
Cassie Walter at the 63:29 mark.
Taylor Ross earned the win in goal for Methodist, playing the first 45:00 before handing over the reins to
Meaghan O'Meara at the start of the second half. The two netminders were not forced to make a single save. Huntingdon's Katie Bonner and Brittany Houseman split the time in goal also, making eight and four saves, respectively. Bonner walks away with the loss.
The Monarchs will play their next game on the road on Wednesday when they travel to Ferrum, Va. to take on Ferrum College at 4:30 pm.
