Methodist Women’s Soccer Routs William Peace, 3-0

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Methodist women's soccer team notched its third USA South Conference win of the season with a 3-0 shutout of William Peace, Saturday at the Monarch Soccerplex.
 
The Monarchs (4-5-1; 3-0-1) dominated the offense from the beginning, keeping the Pacers (3-8-1; 1-5-0) pinned in their own half for most of the match. Overall, MU tallied 24 shots to WPU's one, with 14 on frame to the Pacers' one.
 
To start off the scoring for Methodist, Leslie Coates, with an assist from Cassie Walter, found the back of the net in the 19th minute to put the Monarchs ahead 1-0.
 
With 45 seconds left in the first half, Cassie Poindexter registered an unassisted goal, giving Methodist a 2-0 lead at halftime.
 
The Monarchs started the second half with a bang, as Jasmine Newman took a pass from Taylor Cavasos in the 46th minute, slotting the third and final goal of the match.
 
Methodist goalkeeper Taylor Ross (4-4-1) walks away with the win, after being forced to make only one save on the day. William Peace's Shannon Maddex (3-8-1) will take the loss, making 11 total saves.
 
The Monarchs will return to the Monarch Soccerplex Friday to host the Covenant Scots. Game action will begin at 4:00 pm.
