Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. - The Methodist women's basketball team defeated William Peace, 65-53, on Tuesday evening at the Hermann Student Center.
The Monarchs (13-9, 9-7 USA South) limited the Pacers (4-18, 4-12 USA South) to a 24.6 percent success rate from the floor (16-65). Additionally Methodist held a 63-32 rebounding edge, including 27 offensive boards.
Ahead by four points at halftime (31-27), the Monarchs would soon find themselves locked in a tight contest. With the score knotted up at 49-49 following a Zhana Gooden basket at the 5:18 mark, Methodist proceeded to score the game's next nine points for a 58-49 lead with just under three minutes to go. During this span of roughly two minutes, four different Monarch players scored points while William Peace missed all three of its field-goal attempts.
Monique Lofton scored 11 points for Methodist, all of which came in the second half, to go along with five rebounds.
Alexis Wallace totaled 10 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and two blocks off the bench, and
Jackie Lyles contributed 11 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Ayanna Pegues finished with 10 points and eight rebounds, and
Maya Banks scored 11 points.
Gooden had a game-high 14 points for William Peace, and Derrica Jones tallied 11 points and 10 rebounds. Lexus Simpson chipped in 10 points and four assists.
Methodist will host N.C. Wesleyan on Wednesday night at the March F. Riddle Center. Tipoff is set for 5:30 pm.
