Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist women's basketball snapped its four-game losing streak as it won against Meredith, 61-47, on Wednesday evening.

The Monarchs (10-7, 6-5 USA South) only trailed during the opening one-and-a-half minutes of the action, and later broke open 17-11 game with a 16-6 run over the final 10-plus minutes of the first half to take a commanding 16-point lead (33-17) into the break.

Over this span of time, Methodist hit only 5-of-16 field-goal attempts (.313), but shot 5-of-7 from the free-throw line (.714). In comparison, the Avenging Angels (7-10, 5-6 USA South) converted just 15.8 percent of their shots from the floor during this same stretch (3-19) and also turned the ball over seven times.

Meredith would trail by as many as 20 points in the second half before coming within 10 of the Monarchs after a McKenzi Edwards basket with 5:50 remaining in the contest (49-39). Meredith would come no closer than this, however, as Methodist stood its ground to earn the victory.

Overall the Monarchs hit 38.5 percent of their shots from the field (20-52) and made 20-of-29 free throws (.690). Meredith shot 18-of-66 from the floor (.273) and only attempted 13 free throws all night (7-13).

Jackie Lyles had 15 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and three steals for Methodist, which recognized the senior guard before the tipoff for reaching 1,000 career points against Greensboro on Jan. 25. Ayanna Pegues totaled eight points in addition to a game-high 12 rebounds, and Sydney Bryan scored a career-high 12 points. Chandler Christensen chipped in 10 points and four boards.
