Box Score 2 DANVILLE, Va. -- The Methodist volleyball team opened the season with a pair of wins on the first day of the Cougar Classic hosted by Averett University on Saturday evening.

The Monarchs (2-0), rallied for a 3-2 win over Randolph in the opener, and then defeated Hollins, 3-1, in their final match of the day. Against Randolph, MU dropped the first two sets, 25-14, 25-17, before storming back to win the third (25-17) and fourth sets (25-22) and tie the match at 2-2. The Monarchs then posted a 15-12 win in the fifth and decisive set for the win. In the win over Hollins, set scores were 25-23, 29-27, 23-25, 27-25.

In the win over the WildCats,
Taylar Stafford had a team-best 16 kills to go with 12 digs. Cheyenne Pump chipped in 15 digs, 10 kills and three blocks.
Maggie Harris totaled 38 assists with a pair of service aces, and
Karly Klimas registered 14 digs.

Cassidy Hayes led the MU attack against Hollins, posting 15 kills to go with five total blocks. Stafford added 13 kills and 11 digs, while
Erica Bloodsworth notched 11 kills.
Ryann Appleby came up with nine kills and four blocks. Renee Hoser and
Jordyn Litchfield had 27 and 21 assists, respectively.

Methodist returns to action on Sunday when it takes on Guilford at 9:00 am and Roanoke at 1:00 pm.
