Methodist Volleyball Splits With Roanoke, Hollins

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SALEM, Va. -- The Methodist volleyball team opened play in the Maroon Invitational going 1-1 on Friday evening. MU fell to Roanoke, 3-0, to start play and came back with a 3-0 win over Hollins at the Homer Bast Center.
 
Set scores in the loss to the Maroons were 25-18, 25-11, 25-13, while the Monarchs swept Hollins 25-19, 25-17, 25-15.
 
Against Roanoke, Latina Bailey led MU with six kills and a .357 hitting percentage. Cassidy Hayes added four kills, but hit just -.063 as Roanoke limited the Monarchs to a -.094 hitting percentage as a team. Maggie Harris led the offense to the tune of 15 assists. Taylar Stafford posted 13 digs and Karly Klimas added eight digs.
 
Allison White led Roanoke with eight kills and added eight digs. Ryan Hedgpeth had nine digs, and Jessica Block had 14 assists. The Maroons utilized a strong service game, racking up 15 service aces. Alexandra Martin and Block had five apiece.
 
In the win over Hollins, Hayes led the team with 12 kills. Ryann Appleby, Stafford and Cheyenne Pump all had seven kills. Bailey added six kills as the Monarchs hit .245 as a team. Harris registered 30 assists and added 18 digs. Klimas led the defense with 19 digs and Stafford chipped in 15 digs.
 
Jessie Deese led Hollins with six kills and 15 digs. Haley Ortiz added 12 digs and Lela Moore had 16 assists.
 
Methodist is back in action on Saturday morning beginning at 11:00 am when it takes on Southern Virginia.
