Volleyball Drops a Pair of Matches at Maroon Invitational

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SALEM, Va. -- The Methodist volleyball team wrapped up play in the Maroon Invitational with a pair of 3-1 losses to Southern Virginia and Randolph on Saturday afternoon at the Homer C. Bast Center.
 
The Monarchs (4-6) fell to SVU, 25-10, 25-21, 25-27, 25-19 to open play, and then dropped a 23-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-18 decision to the WildCats.
 
In the loss to SVU, the Monarchs were led offensively by Ryann Appleby and Cassidy Hayes, who had eight and seven kills, respectively. Breana Graham added six kills. Maggie Harris posted 30 assists, and the defense was paced by Karly Klimas' 18 digs. Taylor Stafford and Regan Holloway chipped in 12 and 11 digs, respectively, and Hayes had three service aces.
 
For the Knights, Kaitlyn Eaton had 15 kills and made just one hitting error. Hannah Phillips had eight kills. Valerie Arkansas and Katelynn Tiustek had 22 and 19 assists, respectively. April Bennett posted 33 digs, one of four players with at least 11 digs. Phillips (18), Vanessa Pawlak (15) and Tiustek (11) all joined her in double figures.
 
Against Randolph, Cheyenne Pump led the Monarchs with 13 kills against just one error. Grace Crawford added 11 kills, and Ryann Appleby totaled seven. Stafford led the defense with 18 digs, Pump and Klimas had 15 digs apiece, while Harris added 12. Harris registered 36 assists.
 
Alex Mariona was one of three WildCat players with double digit kills, leading the way with 16. Jordan Templin had 14 and Marissa McClinton added 10. Kerry McMichael had 43 assists and Templin led the defense with 24 digs.
 
Methodist returns to action on Tuesday when it plays at Meredith beginning at 7:00 pm.
