Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist volleyball team defeated Ferrum, 3-1, and Averett, 3-1, on Saturday in the Riddle Center to bring its record to 6-7 overall, and 2-1 in the USA South Athletic Conference.
 
Set scores for the win over Ferrum were 25-27, 25-14, 25-16, and 25-18. In the win over Averett, the scores read 21-25, 25-14, 25-21, and 29-27.
 
In the win over Ferrum (1-10, 0-3), Grace Crawford led MU with 16 kills with only two errors, posting a .400 hitting percentage. Both Cassidy Hayes and Taylar Stafford added 11 kills apiece, and Ryann Appleby and Chyenne Pump chipped in 10 and eight kills, respectively. Methodist's offense shined, recording a .306 hitting percentage overall. Maggie Harris tallied 45 assists and Karly Klimas logged 13 digs.
 
Jordan Link led Ferrum with 14 kills and added three digs. Ashley Amman registered eight kills with seven digs, and LeteashiaClarke had six kills with three blocks. The Panthers were tough at the net, posting 10 blocks in the four sets.
 
For the first time since 2010 the Lady Monarchs topped Averett University. After a loss of the first set, 25-21, MU bounced back and bested the Panthers in sets two and three. Methodist finished the match in dramatic fashion, overcoming a 21-16 deficit to win the fourth and final set, 29-27.
 
Against Averett (7-7, 2-1), Hayes led the Monarchs with 15 kills and a .467 hitting percentage, also adding three blocks. Crawford and Stafford were strong once again on the outside and tallied 11 and seven kills, respectively, while Appleby added six kills and four blocks.
 
Defense was a crucial part in the Monarch's second match of the day. Overall the team recorded 96 digs, with Klimas registering 28, and Stafford adding 20. Harris totaled 43 assists with one service ace.
 
Hannah Shields recorded 19 kills for Averett, while recording 12 digs. Sarah Smooth tallied 12 kills and Jessica Sheek added 9. As a team, AU recorded 97 digs, with Christina Summa leading the way with 21. Nicole Barringer totaled 46 assists with 19 digs.
 
Methodist is back in action at home on Wednesday evening beginning at 8:00 pm when it takes on William Peace.
