Greensboro Bests Methodist Women's Soccer 4-3, in 2OT

Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. -- A Lauren Greeson goal in the 105th minute lifted the Greensboro women's soccer team to victory over Methodist, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Monarchs are now 1-5, 0-1 on the season, while the Pride improves to 3-4, 1-1.
 
Decaysha Miller tallied the first goal of the match in the 13th minute, giving the Monarchs an early 1-0 advantage.
 
In the second half, Methodist would push its lead to 2-0 after a shot off of a deflection from the top would get past Jessica Thatcher and result in an own goal for the Pride in the 66th minute.
 
The momentum of the game changed 10 minutes later, when Melanie Raton, assisted by Elizabeth Torres, whizzed the ball past Taylor Ross in the 76th minute to register Greensboro's first goal of the match and make it 2-1 in favor of MU.
 
Just five minutes later, GC struck again when Alison Gibson, taking a pass from Torres, found the back of the net in the 81st minute, tying up the match 2-2.
 
Methodist was able to regain the lead in the 84th minute when Jordan Ray netted her first goal of the season, taking a pass from Sara Snotherly.
 
Greensboro rallied just 23 seconds later, as Gibson scored for the second time in four minutes, with an assist from Raton, bringing the score to another tie at 3-3.
 
The first overtime ended without a single goal from either team, sending the Monarchs and the Pride to a second 10-minute set. Halfway through, in the 105th minute, Torres delivered her third assist of the night to Lauren Greeson, giving Greensboro the win, 4-3.
 
MU's Megan O'Meara will take the loss, after entering the match for the overtime periods, making one save. Ross saw action in all 90 minutes of regulation, making six saves while allowing three goals. GC's Thatcher earned the win, making eight saves overall.
 
The Monarchs return to action this Saturday against Piedmont at the Monarch Soccerplex starting at 4:30 pm.
