FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist women's soccer team used one goal in each half to top Averett, 2-0, on Friday afternoon at the Monarch Soccerplex.
The Monarchs (2-5-0, 1-1-0) won their first USA South matchup as Taylor Cavasos and Victoria Martin accounted for the scoring plays in the 17th and 59th minute, respectively. The two ran the show during the match, assisting the other on both goals.
MU posted an 11-2 edge in shots on frame over AU (0-8-0, 0-3-0), keeping constant pressure on Cougar goalkeeper Kim Josephson, who stepped in after AU's starting keeper, Ashley Jones, was injured in warmups.
Taylor Ross (2-4-0), celebrating her 21st birthday, took home the win for the Monarchs, making two saves throughout the entire 90 minutes of play. Josephson (0-1-0) will return to Danville with the loss after making nine saves on the day.
Methodist will resume play with another USA South contest on Saturday at the Monarch Soccerplex against Piedmont. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:30 pm.
