FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Playing in its second game in as many days, the Methodist women's soccer team ended with a 0-0 tie in double overtime on Saturday afternoon at the Monarch Soccerplex.
Despite the Green and Gold's (2-5-1, 1-1-1) offense playing tough the whole match, outshooting the Lions (5-3-1, 2-1-1) 16-3 with a 6-3 shots on frame edge, Piedmont's keeper Michaela Gardner (5-3-1) kept the net free of a Methodist goal, making six saves on the day.
MU goalkeeper
Taylor Ross (2-4-1) made one save on the day and was credited her third shutout of the 2014 campaign.
The two teams showed their frustration towards the scoreless match, becoming very physical in the last 40 minutes of play, as five total yellow cards were handed out. For Piedmont, Morgan Edelman, Kristen Newstrom, and Mollie Leeuwenburg were handed cards in the last 18 minutes of regulation. Methodist was given two yellows in a span of three minutes in the first overtime, one to
Eryka Underwood and the other to
Deycasha Miller.
Methodist will return to the road, competing against the Battling Bishops of N.C. Wesleyan this Wednesday at 4:00 pm.
