MU Women's Soccer Topples LaGrange, 5-1

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist women's soccer team picked up a 5-1 victory over LaGrange College on Saturday afternoon at the Monarch Soccerplex.
 
Methodist (9-6, 7-3 USAS) took an early 1-0 lead as LaGrange (4-14, 2-8 USAS) knocked a ball into its own goal at the 1:27 mark. Immediately after, at the 1:33 mark, Jasmine Newman scored on a feed from Taylor Cavazos to push the Monarchs ahead, 2-0.
 
Ten minutes later, the Panthers scored on themselves once again, and MU gained a 3-0 lead. Less than a minute later, Capri Clark tallied the last goal of the first half for the Green and Gold, recording an unassisted goal at the 12:13 mark for a 4-0 Monarch advantage.
 
LaGrange tallied its lone goal of the match at the 30:19 when Andrea Richard scored on a breakaway down the middle.
 
Amanda Hayes tallied the only score of the second half for either team at the 69:29 mark, sending an unassisted ball past LaGrange's starting goalkeeper Carly Farrow (2-2, 2-2 USAS), for a final score of 5-1 in Methodist's favor.
 
Overall, Methodist outshot the visiting Panthers by an overwhelming 25-5 margin, and 15-3 in shots on frame. Taylor Ross (8-6, 6-3 USAS) earned the win after making two saves in 81:40 before Meaghan O'Meara came on in relief for the final 8:20 and was not forced to make any saves. Farrow took the loss despite making a season-high 10 saves.
 
Methodist will host Huntingdon College on Sunday at 1:00 pm. Prior to the match, the Monarchs will honor its four seniors, Cavazos, Julianne LoGrasso, Cassie Poindexter and Ross.
