Snotherly Leads MU Women's Soccer Past Ferrum, 6-1

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Sara Snotherly scored a pair of goals and the Methodist women's soccer team wrapped up its regular season with a 6-1 win over Ferrum on Thursday afternoon.

The Monarchs completed the regular season with an overall record of 11-6 and a 9-3 mark in league play to finish in fourth place in advance of the USA South Conference Championships set to get underway this weekend. Methodist has now won four straight and eight of its last 10.

Snotherly needed barely a minute to spot MU to a 1-0 advantage. Ferrum's Chelsea Wingate misplayed a cross into the box and Snotherly slotted the loose ball past Wingate at the 1:01 mark. Roughly three minutes later, Snotherly made it 2-0 when she got on the end of a ball from Deycasha Miller and beat Wingate from 15 yards out.

Jasmine Newman set up Capri Clark in the 24th minute, and Clark rifled a shot home for a 3-0 lead.

Five minutes into the second half, Kayla Dean converted a free kick from 40 yards out, sending her shot over the head of Ashley McAllister, who came on in relief of Wingate, for a 4-0 lead. Methodist made good on a second free kick, this one off the foot of Taylor Cavazos in the 62nd minute, to push its lead to 5-0.

The Monarchs capped their scoring in the 75th minute when Kimmie Pittman fed Cassie Poindexter in the left side of the box for a 6-0 lead.

Methodist was denied a clean sheet as Ferrum broke up the shutout with a breakaway goal by Aina Tuck with four minutes to play. Taylor Ross started and played 68 minutes in goal, making three saves on the day. Meaghan O'Meara played the final 22 minutes and did not make a save. Methodist outshot the Panthers (11-7, 3-6 USA South), 24-8, and forced Wingate into making three saves in the first half. McAllister made four saves with three goals against in 41:20 of action, and Emily Hargrove finished out the contest and made one save.

Methodist will now host a quarterfinal match in the USA South Championships on Saturday with the tournament field yet to be officially set.
