FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Ferrum's Hunter Ferguson kicked a 22-yard field goal with six seconds to play as the Panthers knocked off Methodist, 32-31, on Saturday afternoon at Monarch Stadium.
Â
The 22-yard field goal came at the end of an 11-play drive and capped a 25-point fourth quarter for Ferrum (2-6, 2-3) as the Panthers rallied from a 28-7 deficit in the fourth quarter. Methodist now sits at 3-5 on the season and 1-4 in the USA South.
Â
The Monarchs raced out to a 14-0 lead in the first period on a two-yard run by
E'Mond Brown and an 18-yard scamper by Emotie Dears.
Brandon Torres converted both extra points.
Â
Early in the second quarter, Ferrum halved its deficit to 14-7 as Anthony Merritt found Raushod Floyd in the end zone from 12 yards out. Both teams were held off the scoreboard the remainder of the half, and the teams went into the break at 14-7.
Â
Methodist kicked off to begin the third quarter, but
Windell Palmer picked off Troy Helton on the Panthers' second play and gave MU the ball at Ferrum's 37-yard line. Following a 35-yard completion from
Dylan DeGroot to

Â
At the 8:40 mark of the third quarter, MU pushed its lead to 28-7 as DeGroot hooked up with

Â
Ferrum forced a three-and-out on MU's ensuing drive and Helton pulled FC within a point, 28-27, with a 35-yard touchdown run with 7:19 to play. Ferrum took a 29-28 lead after the snap was bobbled on the PAT attempt and the holder, Tyler Morgan, was able to regain possession and win a footrace to the pylon.
Â
The Monarchs regained the lead on Torres' 33-yard field goal with 3:30 to play, but that proved enough time for Ferrum to pull out the win.
