Greensboro Edges MU Football, 26-22

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Methodist football team dropped a 26-22 decision to Greensboro on Saturday afternoon at Jamieson Stadium.

The Pride (3-6, 2-4 USA South) scored all 26 of their points in the second quarter and a late pick by GC halted an MU comeback attempt. Emontie Dears ran for 141 yards on 33 carries with one touchdown to lead the Monarch offense. The Monarchs limited Greensboro to just 292 yards of total offense, including a blocked punt and a safety, but MU turned the ball over four times.

After a scoreless first period, GC got on the scoreboard on the first play of the second quarter when Kenneth Purvis burst through the middle for a 76-yard touchdown run. Ryan Campbell's PAT was no good. GC extended its lead to 13-0 on Raymond Bridges' 32-yard touchdown reception from Mac Graham.

Dears pulled MU within 13-7 when he capped a short drive with a one-yard plunge at the 9:28 mark of the second quarter.

Graham hooked up with Armani Williams on a 33-yard scoring strike and a failed two-point conversion left the score at 19-7. Brandon Torres booted a 34-yard field goal with 4:13 left in the first half that made it 19-10, but Purvis answered with a 13-yard scoring run that pushed Greensboro's lead to 26-10 less than a minute later.

After Reshad Washington blocked Ryan Campbell's punt, Torres added another field goal, a 28-yarder, as time expired in the first half with the score 26-13 Greensboro.

The only points scored in the second half came on a 13-yard pass from Dylan DeGroot to Anthony Radke at the 10:10 mark of the third quarter to make it 26-22, followed by Tevis Dasher's sack of Graham that resulted in a safety with 12:11 in the contest and pulled MU to within four points.

Methodist had two possessions following the Dasher safety, but turned the ball over twice to fall to 3-6 on the season (1-5 USA South).
