Methodist Men's Soccer Dismantles William Peace, 7-1

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Methodist men's soccer team toppled the host William Peace Pacers on Tuesday evening, 7-1. With the victory, MU moves to 4-4-3 overall and 1-0-2 in conference play, while WPU falls to 2-10 on the season and 2-4 in league matchups.
 
Five different Monarchs scored in Tuesday's match, and two scored twice. One of those Monarchs, Fredrik Aalberg, opened up the scoring in the first half for the Green and Gold, netting a feed from Eirik Nordseth at the 19:21 mark. Trevor Hendricks pushed Methodist's lead to 2-0 after scoring an unassisted goal at the 31:39 mark, ending the scoring in the first frame for either team.
 
Methodist's leading scorer, Eirik Nordseth, extended the lead to 3-0 at the 52:03 mark, scoring on a pass from Seth Harrison, before Harrison tallied his own goal, assisted by Aalberg, for a 4-0 advantage.
 
William Peace scored its lone goal at the 58:00 mark as Enrique Ochoa successfully beat MU's starting goalkeeper, Alex Rabone, with a penalty-kick shot, bringing the score to 4-1 in Methodist's favor.
 
Aalberg recorded his second goal of the match at the 63:00 match, as Harrison tallied his second assist, and Nordseth scored his second tally four minutes later, converting a feed from Hendricks, pushing Methodist ahead, 6-1.
 
Rookie forward Dylan Thomas registered his first collegiate goal at the 76:14 mark, netting a pass from Tyler Ursuy, giving the Monarchs a 7-1 lead and eventual winning score.
 
Methodist overpowered the Pacers offensively, tallying a season-high 37 shots and a season-high 16 shots on frame to WPU's three shots and two shots on frame.
 
Rabone took the win for the Monarchs, making one save in 77:04 in goal before giving way to Johnathan Moore, who played the remaining 12:56 and was not pressured to make any saves. WPU's Tanielu Riley was given the loss, making eight saves and allowing seven goals.
 
The Monarchs will travel to Demorest, Ga. to compete against the host Piedmont Lions in a USA South conference matchup beginning at 6:30 pm on Friday.
