Alexis Wallace and
Jalisia Campbell each posted double-doubles and the Methodist women's basketball team improved to 2-0 with a 64-46 win at Salem on Sunday afternoon.

Wallace poured in 24 points and pulled down 17 rebounds, while Campbell chipped in 18 points and 15 boards to lead the Monarchs.
Jasmine Canady nearly had a double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds.

After taking a 14-12 lead after one quarter, the Monarchs distanced themselves from Salem (0-1) by outscoring the Spirits, 21-10, in the second period.

After a jumper by Salem's Aaliyah Webb put the score at 20-16 in favor of MU with 6:12 left in the first half, the Monarchs reeled off a 14-1 run over the next 3:04 to take a 34-17 lead on
Sydney Bryan's jumper by the 3:08 mark. Salem missed five straight shots, turned the ball over five times and hit on just 1-of-4 free throws until Shaniqua Collins' triple with 52 seconds left in the half made it 34-20 in favor of Methodist.

The Monarchs went into the break holding a 35-22 advantage.

Salem trimmed its deficit to as few as eight points (43-35) with 5:36 left in the third quarter, but Wallace answered with a jump shot, followed by a Campbell jumper, and the Monarchs' lead never dipped below double digits the remainder of the contest.

As a team, Methodist shot 36.6 percent (26-71) from the floor, while holding Salem to 28.1 percent shooting (18-64). The Monarchs held a huge edge on the glass, 59-33, and Salem was a woeful 6-of-18 (.333) from the charity stripe.

Bryan finished with eight points and seven rebounds for MU, and Campbell and
Allison Dones each had three assists.

Sabrina Shepherd led Salem with 14 points and also had a team-high nine rebounds. Alexiahonna Bush scored six points and added six rebounds, while Laramie Miller had six points, four boards and four steals.

Methodist will now play at Salisbury on Friday beginning at 5:30 pm.
