SALISBUR, Md. -- Three different Monarchs scored 18 points apiece and the Methodist women's basketball team ran past Apprentice, 86-66, on Saturday afternoon at Salisbury.

Jalisia Campbell,
Jasmine Canady and
Ayanna Pegues scored 18 points apiece and combined to shoot 18-of-34 from the field as part of a 53.4 percent (31-58) team shooting effort. The Monarchs (3-1) held Apprentice (1-3) to 33.8 percent shooting (23-68) and out rebounded the Builders, 44-33.

After a solid first quarter that saw MU take a 21-15 lead, the Green and Gold seized control of the contest by outscoring Apprentice, 20-7, in the second period. The Monarchs' lead was still at six points (25-19) following a pair of free throws by Tyne Innocent at the 6:52 mark.
Alexis Wallace began a spurt of 16 straight points by the Monarchs with a jump shot. Canady and
Lillian Geehring added back-to-back jumpers before Wallace rattled off five straight points of her own to push MU's advantage to 36-19 at the 3:25 mark.

Geehring capped the run with a triple with 1:48 on the clock and Shakiera Skinner broke the Apprentice drought with a three of her own nine seconds later as MU took a 41-22 lead into the break.

Apprentice did not manage to mount a rally in the second half as the Monarchs cruised to the win. The Methodist bench outscored the Builders', 41-23, and MU scored 15 points off 21 Apprentice turnovers.

Campbell also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds, Canady had four assists, and Pegues pulled down six rebounds.
Alexia Hines scored nine points, six rebounds and four assists.

Ylexzis Traegar and Kenya Wilkerson each had 13 points to lead the Builders. Julissa Riddick had six points and six rebounds.

The Monarchs are back on the road next Sunday at Emory beginning at 2:00 pm.
