NORFOLK, Va. -- Four different Monarchs scored in double figures and the Methodist women's basketball team defeated Virginia Wesleyan, 66-53, at the Batten Center on Friday evening.

Jasmine Canady led the Monarchs (5-2) with 15 points.
Jalisia Campbell added 14 points, and
Alexis Wallace and
Ayanna Pegues chipped in 12 and 10, respectively.

Methodist held a 13-point lead midway through the third period before seeing the Marlins (2-6) trim their deficit to just one point with 9:38 left in the fourth quarter. However, the Monarchs put the game away with a 14-0 spurt to take a 64-49 lead with just under two minutes to play.

Wallace and
Alexia Hines each scored four points during the game-clinching run, and Campbell capped the burst with a layup off a feed from Canady. Virginia Wesleyan was limited to 0-of-7 shooting with six turnovers during the game's decisive run over nearly eight minutes.

For the game, Methodist shot 39.1 percent (25-64) from the floor and 68.4 percent (13-19) from the line. Virginia Wesleyan shot 32.1 percent (18-56) from the field, including just 4-of-23 (.174) from three-point range, and 65.0 percent (13-20) from the charity stripe. The Monarchs held a +5 margin on the glass (45-40) and forced 24 turnovers.

In addition to her 10 points, Pegues had a team-best eight rebounds, while Canady had seven boards, six steals and four assists. Campbell added six rebounds and four steals, and Wallace had seven rebounds.

The Marlins were led by 15 points from Jayla Harris. Kelly Jones added 14, and Crystal Strother had 13. Naeemah Morris totaled a team-high eight rebounds, and Strother added five steals.
