GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Anais Weatherly scored 19 points and pulled down 16 rebounds as the Guilford women's basketball team held off Methodist, 58-52, on Sunday afternoon at Ragan Field House.

Methodist (5-3) held Weatherly to just 8-of-23 shooting, but she added four assists and three steals as well.
Ayanna Pegues led the Monarchs with 12 points, and
Alexia Hines added 10 points.
Alexis Wallace chipped in nine points and 10 rebounds for the Monarchs.

After Methodist took a 10-8 lead through one quarter, Guilfford opened the second quarter on a 14-4 run to take a 22-14 lead at the 3:48 mark on Essence Abraham's three pointer. MU's
Monique Lofton answered with a three of her own to make it 22-17 and the Monarchs closed their deficit to 24-21 by halftime.

In the second half, Guilford's lead reached as many as 14 points. Methodist was able to pull within five points (55-50) on a layup by
Alexia Hines with 3:57 left to play, but that would be as close as the Green and Gold came down the stretch.

Both teams struggled shooting the ball, MU coming in at 35.2 percent (19-54) and Guilford at 33.3 percent (21-63). Guilford held a 43-41 rebounding edge, including 17-11 on the offensive glass.

Abraham added 13 points for Guilford, and Ymani Breedlove had five points and nine rebounds.

Methodist is now off for the holiday and will return to action on Jan. 4 when it hosts William Peace at 7:00 pm.
