Brandon Monk had a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds, and
Davion Ayabarreno added 16 points, but the Methodist men's basketball team fell, 65-58, at Washington and Lee on Tuesday afternoon.

The Monarchs (4-7) shot 57.1 percent in the first half (12-21) en route to a 28-23 lead at the break, but the Generals (5-3) chipped away at their deficit in the second period, taking the lead for good (55-52) on Clayton Murtha's thee pointer with 1:40 to play.

In the opening minutes of the second half, W&L tied the game a 34-34, but MU responded with a 7-0 run capped by Ayabarreno's steal and layup for a 41-34 lead with 13:37 on the clock. Washington and Lee halted the run and did not allow MU to put the game away before Murtha's three ignited a 13-6 run to close out the game.

As a team, Methodist shot 49.0 percent (24-49), including 53.8 percent (7-13) from long range. The Generals shot 39.7 percent for the game (23-58), including 51.7 percent (15-29) in the second half. W&L held a decided edge at the charity stripe, converting 13-of-19 attempts, while MU got to the line just seven times (3-7). Washington and Lee's bench also contributed 27 points, while the MU reserves tallied 12 points.

Ayabarrenos added five rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Jackson Whitley had eight rebounds and seven blocks, and
Tabias Hilliard chipped in eight rebounds and seven assists.

Murtha led all scorers with 17 points, and Roy McMillan added 10 points. Murtha also pulled down a team-high nine rebounds, and Andrew Franz added nine points, seven rebounds and six assists.

The Monarchs will play in Wednesday's consolation game against the loser of Sewanee vs. Frostburg State at 2:00 pm.
