Walter's Record Day Paces MU Women's Lax in 19-5 Win Over St. Andrews

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Cassie Walter set a new MU single-game record with 11 goals as the Methodist women's lacrosse team coasted to a 19-5 win over St. Andrews on Sunday afternoon at Monarch Stadium.

Walter broke the previous record of 10 goals when she tallied her 11th of the contest with just under a minute to play and give the Monarchs (4-0) an 18-5 lead. In three games played this season, Walter already has 26 goals and seven assists.

The Monarchs were never threatened in extending their streak to four games. MU raced out to a 6-1 lead midway through the first period. Walter scored four of the Green and Gold's first six goals and Hope Motahari added a pair. Walter added three more goals in the first half, giving her seven in the first 30 minutes, as Methodist carried a 12-3 lead into halftime.

Just over seven minutes into the second half, Methodist reached the 10-goal differential that triggers the running clock on a goal by Sareena Coleman and MU was never threatened the rest of the way.

As a team, MU out shot St. Andrews (0-4) by a margin of 36-12. The Monarchs also held advantages in ground balls (17-8), draw controls (17-7), and MU was 12-of-14 clearing the ball while SAU was just 8-of-18. Emily Ewin picked up the win, playing all 60:00 and making five saves. Brittani Biddinger was in the cage for the Knights and made nine saves.

Walter added a pair of assists, and Motahari finished with five goals and a pair of helpers. Coleman scored twice and Emily Creasy scored once for the Monarchs. Bianca Terenzi led the team with seven ground balls, Walter had eight draw controls, and Motahari caused four turnovers.

Xavonya Attwood scored three goals for St. Andrews and Joelle-Sara Prata added two. Prata also had a pair of ground balls and three draw controls.

Methodist hits the road for the first time in 2015 next Sunday, taking on Notre Dame of Maryland at 12:00 pm.
