FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Kaleigh Hemstock saved a potential game-tying goal in the final two minutes and the Greensboro women's lacrosse team held on to knock off Methodist, 9-8, on Wednesday evening at Monarch Stadium
Â
After Alexa Besch broke an 8-8 tie and gave the Pride (7-2, 3-1 USA South) a 9-8 lead with 3:47 to play, the Monarchs'
Maddi Ronelli forced a GC turnover and
Sareena Coleman's ground ball gave the Monarchs (6-4, 0-3 USA South) possession with 3:32 on the clock. The Monarchs worked the ball around and
Hope Motahari had a chance to tie the game, but her shot from the doorstep was stopped by Hemstock and the Pride ran out the clock to secure the win.
Â
Methodist had come back from an 8-6 deficit with 9:33 to play to tie the game at 8-8.
Cassie Walter scored at the 6:37 mark, and Zhane Ruffin tied the game at 8-8 on a feed from Ronelli with 5:44 on the clock.
Â
In the first half, MU fell behind 4-2 by the 7:23 mark, but goals from Coleman, Ronelli and Walter gave the Green and Gold a 5-4 advantage with 4:05 left in the first period. Greensboro's Kirstin Norris managed to find the back of the cage with 28 seconds to play in the first half and tie the game at 5-5.
Â
Methodist had a chance to take a lead at halftime, but in the first period's waning seconds, Hemstock made a save on Ruffin, and
Emily Brennen's follow up was just wide as the first half horn sounded.
Â
Methodist out shot Greensboro, 28-16, and picked up 21 ground balls to 11 for the Pride. Greensboro held a, slim, 11-8 edge in draw controls, and each team turned the ball over 14 times.

Hemstock finished with eight saves on the day, and
Emily Ewin made six for MU.
Â
Ronelli led the Monarchs with four points on three goals and one assist. Walter finished with three goals. Coleman and Ewin had five and four ground balls, respectively, to lead the Monarchs, and
