Methodist Women's Lacrosse Beats LaGrange, 18-8

LAGRANGE, Ga. -- The Methodist women's lacrosse team improved to 8-4 on the season with an 18-8 win at LaGrange on Sunday afternoon.
 
Cassie Walter continued her hot scoring of late, scoring six goals and adding an assist after totaling 10 points (7g, 3a) in Saturday's win over Huntingdon. Hope Motahari and Maddi Ronelli added three goals apiece for the Monarchs.
 
Motahari gave the Monarchs an early 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal just over a minute into the game before the Panthers (1-10) scored consecutive goals to take a 2-1 lead. Sydney Garmany and Oliva Monroe tallied at 23:42 and 22:59, respectively, for LC.
 
The Monarchs responded with three straight goals from Ronelli for a 4-2 lead by the 14:51 mark of the first half before Ashley Davis pulled the Panthers within one at 4-3 with 12:41 left in the opening period.
 
Bianca Terenzi scored 39 seconds later to push MU's advantage to 5-3, and four more goals from MU, including three from Walter, gave the visitors a 9-3 lead at 6:55. LaGrange tallied back-to-back goals to close out the half and make it 9-5 at the break.
 
The MU lead never fell below five goals in the second half, and the Monarchs closed out the contest with five straight goals, including two more from Walter to put the game away.
 
The Monarchs out shot LC by a whopping 37-16 margin and won the ground ball battle, 25-20. MU also won 16 draws to 12 for LaGrange. Emily Ewin played the first 50:17 in the cage for the Green and Gold and made four saves with eight goals allowed. Molly O'Hara played the final 9:43 and did not face a shot. Kallie Brook played all 60 minutes for LC and made 13 saves.
 
Sareena Coleman scored twice for MU and Emily Brennen added two goals and an assist. Motahari had a game-high six draw controls and five ground balls while adding three caused turnovers. Gabbi Tobias and Coleman each had four ground balls, and Zhane' Ruffin came up with four draw controls.
 
Ashley Davis and Cheyene St. Germain each had a pair of goals for the Panthers, and Alexis Dillard had a goal and two assists. Jessica Hatch and Kathryn Wood each had three ground balls, and Maggie LaVangie had four draw controls.
 
The Monarchs are back in action on Thursday when they host Meredith at 5:00 pm.
