GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Methodist men's lacrosse team fell at Greensboro, 13-3, on Wednesday evening.

Methodist falls to 7-6 on the season, while the Quakers improve to 7-2 with the win.

Methodist scored the game's first goal as
Jake Smerka beat GC's Thomas Deane after receiving a pass from
Jaylen Robinson at the 10:39 mark of the first quarter. The Quakers scored back-to-back man-up goals and held a 2-1 lead after the first period.

Guilford extended its lead in the second quarter, outscoring MU 5-0 to take a 7-1 lead into the break. Five different Quakers scored during the second period, and Jace Sowden and Daniel Hughey each had a goal and an assist during the period.

Methodist's deficit reached 9-1 at the 9:10 mark of the third quarter before
Justin Layden scored unassisted to snap the Monarchs' scoring drought. GC added four goals in the fourth quarter and Smerka scored once more for the Monarchs to close out the day's scoring.

Chris Lombardi, making his first collegiate start in goal, made 11 saves for the Monarchs. Deane made six saves for GC.

Guilford outshot the Monarchs, 38-20, and picked up 31 ground balls to 18 for MU. Methodist won 14-of-19 face offs, all taken by
Trent Diaz, but committed 29 turnovers.

Matt Layden led the Monarchs with five ground balls, and
Justin Layden had a pair of ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Hughey had three goals and an assist, and Sowden finished with a pair of goals and two assists. Jake Sadd led GC with five ground balls and Cam Davis had three caused turnovers.

The Monarchs are back in action on Saturday when they host Huntingdon at 3:00 pm.
