FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist men's lacrosse team pulled off an improbable comeback in earning an 11-10 win over Ferrum in its season finale on Saturday afternoon at Monarch Stadium.

The Monarchs trailed 10-3 late in the second quarter before scoring the final goal of the first half and outscoring Ferrum, 7-0, in the second half. The Monarchs conclude their second season with an even record of 8-8.

The Monarchs fell behind 10-3 at the 5:52 mark of the second quarter as Marcus Boyer scored a man-up goal off a feed from Tyler Fullem before mounting their comeback.
Andrew Ruskey's goal at 2:55 of the second quarter made it a 10-4 game at halftime.

The second half was dominated by MU as the Green and Gold held advantages in faceoffs won (6-3), and ground balls (20-8) while also completing a perfect 10-of-10 clears.
Justin Layden began the second half by scoring off a feed from
Andrew Ruskey at 13:40. At the 12:24 mark,
Matt Layden made it 10-6 with a man up goal, and
Sean Mayefskie pulled the Monarchs within three at 10-7 with 9:42 left in the period.

Ben Click and
Justin Layden scored just over a minute apart to close out the period on a 5-0 run and make it a 10-9 deficit entering the final period.

Less than 30 seconds into the fourth quarter, the Monarchs pulled even at 10-10 as
Aaron Ward scored off a
Matt Layden feed. The game-winning goal came off the stick of
Mack Cox, also off a feed from
Matt Layden, with 7:29 to play.

Andrew Chinigo was key in goal to MU pulling out the win. He made 14 saves on the day, seven in each half and had three ground balls. John Michael Smith made 12 saves in the cage for Ferrum.

Trent Diaz won 12-of-21 faceoffs on the day, including 6-of-9 in the second half. Click led the team with three goals, and
Jake Smerka had a goal and three assists.
Justin Layden scored twice and had one assist, and
Matt Layden adde a goal with two assists.
Justin Layden had five ground balls, and
Matt Layden had four.
