Box Score 2 ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Methodist split a pair of volleyball matches at St. Mary's College on Saturday afternoon. The Monarchs opened with a 3-0 loss to host St. Mary's, before posting a 3-2 win over Eastern Mennonite to close out the day.
The Seahawks swept the Monarchs (5-2) 25-16, 25-14, 25-23 but bounced back to defeat the Royals 21-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-20, 15-9 in come-from-behind fashion.
In the loss to SMC,
Cassidy Hayes and
Brittany Ter Meer each posted seven kills as the MU offense struggled to find a rhythm with a team hitting percentage of .088.
Chyenne Pump and
Ashley Beardsley each had five kills and
Maggie Harris had 20 assists.
Karly Klimas led the defense with 15 digs, and Harris had six.
Mimi Graf led the Seahawks with nine kills and 16 assists. Grace Chao had 13 assists, while Carissa Hill had 14 digs to go with match-high three service aces.
To close out the day, MU battled back from an 0-2 deficit to secure a split on the day.
Hayes had 15 kills to lead the Monarchs, and Beardsley chipped in 14. Ter Meer and Pump added 13 and 11 kills, respectively, as four different MU players reached double digits. Harris poured in 49 assists, and Klimas once again paced the defense with 22 digs.
Harris notched 15 digs, and
Reagan Holloway had 11.
Alyssa Coffey and Kllimas had a pair of service aces each.
Eastern Mennonite was led by Janna Williams' 11 kills. Jasmine Johnson had 29 assists and Katie Miller led the defense with 25 digs.
Both Hayes and Ter Meer were named to the All-Tournament team at the conclusion of play.
The Monarchs are back in action on Thursday when they host Meredith at 7:00 pm.
