Methodist Women's Soccer Blanks N.C. Wesleyan, 3-0

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist women's soccer team earned a X-X win over N.C. Wesleyan on Wednesday afternoon at the Monarch Soccerplex.

The Monarchs (5-4, 3-1 USA South) supplemented a strong all-around effort with good fortune in winning their second straight conference match. Methodist outshot N.C. Wesleyan (3-5-1, 1-3 USA South), 13-0, including 7-0, on goal.

Cassie Poindexter opened the scoring with her first goal of the season, assisted by Taylor Cavazos, which gave MU a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute of the match.

The score remained 1-0 until the 55th minute when the Monarchs benefited from an own goal by the Battling Bishops. Deycasha Miller's ball into the box was mishandled by an NCWC defender resulting in an own goal and a 2-0 lead for MU.

Kortney Maggard pushed the Monarchs' lead to 3-0 in the 65th minute as she was able to beat N.C. Wesleyan's Vanessa Batchelor following a pass from Miranda Cowardin. Capri Clark narrowly missed a chance to make it 4-0 in the 75th minute, but her shot hit the crossbar.

Taylor Ross played all 90:00 in goal for MU and the defense in front of her did not yield a shot. Batchelor made four saves for the Bishops.

Methodist is slated to return to action on Saturday at William Peace beginning at 2:00 pm.
