FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist women's soccer team improved its record to 2-0 on Saturday evening, edging St. Mary's (Md.), 1-0, in an overtime affair.
 
After two scoreless frames and two lightning delays, MU ended the game at the 96:01 mark as rookie forward Amanda Hayes sent a left-footed shot into the upper 90 of the net to propel the Monarchs to the 1-0 victory. Jordan Ray was credited the assist.  
 
Methodist proved to have a stronger game offensively, outshooting the Seahawks (0-2) 16-8 overall and 12-2 in shots on frame.  In goal, Taylor Ross (2-0) earned the win after making two saves. Despite making a career-high 11 saves, Katie Flores (0-1) was given the loss after allowing one goal.
 
The Monarchs are back in action on September 12 as they travel to take on Christopher Newport at 3 p.m.
