FERRUM, Va. – The Methodist men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss in double overtime against Ferrum on Sunday afternoon.
With the loss, the Monarchs fall to 5-4-1 on the season and snap a five-game winning streak, while falling to 3-1 in conference action. Meanwhile, the Panthers improve to 4-8-0 overall behind a 2-3 mark in league play.
Neither team could find the back of the net in the first half despite 10 total shots between the two sides. The same was true in the second half as each side combined for 15 shots, but no goals as the game entered overtime.
In the first extra period, Ferrum held the Monarchs without a shot but could not score. The match came to an end at the 101:27 mark in the second overtime when Shamarr Perry took a pass from Kyle Simpkins for the game-winner.
Jonathan Moore (5-2) made four saves on Sunday and extended his shutout streak to nearly 570 minutes before conceding the game-winning goal in the 102nd minute. Derek Thomas (4-8) earned the win after also collecting four saves in the game.
Each team posted 14 shots, while the Monarchs held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Methodist returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 5 against William Peace at the Monarch Soccerplex beginning at 2 pm.
