MU Women's Soccer Plays to a Tie with Greensboro, 3-3

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Methodist women's soccer team fought for a double-overtime, 3-3 tie against Greensboro on Sunday afternoon.

With the result, the Monarchs move to 4-5-1 overall behind a 4-2-1 conference mark. Meanwhile, the Pride go to 7-3-1 on the season with a 4-2-1 record in league play.

Greensboro opened the scoring at the 13:46 mark when Caitlyn Cook took a long cross from Lauren Greeson into the box, 1-0. MU quickly responded when Taylor Cavazos tied the game in the 17th minute. At the 24:58 mark, Cook played a through ball between two Monarch defenders to Greeson who notched her sixth goal of the season as the Pride took a 2-1 lead into halftime.

Deycasha Miller scored from 25 yards out to tie the game, 2-2, in the 73rd minute. The tie stood until the 80:47 mark when Cook netted her second goal of the contest to give Greensboro a 3-2 lead. The MU offense pressured the ball until Capri Clark scored the equalizer after receiving a cross into the box from Sara Snotherly, 3-3.

The first overtime period ended without a goal, despite six shots and two corner kicks from the Monarchs. Neither team was able to score in the second overtime period as the game ended in a 3-3 draw.

MU held a 28-8 shot advantage and also had a 14-1 edge in corner kicks, including eight corners in the second half.

Junior goalkeeper Meaghan O'Meara (4-5-1) made two saves while playing all 110 minute in net for the Monarchs, while sophomore Brittany Morrison (7-3-1) collected eight saves on Sunday afternoon.

Methodist returns to the pitch on Wednesday, Oct. 5, as it faces N.C. Wesleyan at the Monarch Soccerplex beginning at 4:30 pm.
