FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Methodist women's soccer team fought for a 2-1 win against N.C. Wesleyan at the Monarch Soccerplex on Wednesday night.
With the win, the Monarchs improve to 5-5-1 on the season with a 5-2-1 mark in league play. Meanwhile, the Battling Bishops snap a four-game winning streak and fall to 7-3-1 overall behind a 6-2-0 record in conference action. MU sweeps the season series with N.C. Wesleyan, who entered today in first place in the USA South East Division.
The Bishops scored first in the early minutes of the contest when Ella Burkhart scored a goal after getting a pass from Logan Bill at the 2:43 mark. In the 13th minute,
Taylor Cavazos posted an unassisted goal after collecting a rebound from her own shot to tie the game, 1-1. Neither team found the back of the net in the first period to make the halftime score, 1-1

Capri Clark scored the eventual game-winning goal at the 57:44 mark, unassisted, in the second half to give the Monarchs a 2-1 lead. N.C. Wesleyan was unable to notch another goal as MU earned the victory, 2-1.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Catie Gaughan (1-0) earned the win after making two saves in just under 73 minutes in net. Ashley Major (7-3-1) took the loss despite making four saves in all 90 minutes on Wednesday evening.
The Monarchs held a 14-5 shot advantage, while also edging the Battling Bishops 5-4 in corner kicks.
Methodist is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Monarch Soccerplex against Averett at 2 pm.
