FERRUM, Va. – The Methodist women's soccer team scored two unanswered goals to earn a 2-2 double-overtime draw against Ferrum on Wednesday night.
With the result, the Monarchs move to 5-5-2 on the year behind a 5-2-2 conference mark. Meanwhile, the Panthers move to 10-5-2 overall with a 8-2-2 record in league play.
Ferrum scored early in the match when Payton Stuart notched a goal with an assist from Mac Cannaday at the 47-second mark of the first half. In the 16th minute, Alexi McCargo posted an unassisted goal to extend the lead for the Panthers, 2-0. MU was able to cut the deficit by one at the 31:32 mark when
Miranda Cowardin found the back of the net to make the halftime score, 2-1.
Toward the end of regulation,
Kortney Maggard scored the equalizer in the 85th minute with an assist from Haley Bowels to make the score 2-2. Neither side was able to find the back of the net in regulation as the game headed to overtime.
In the first overtime period, the two sides combined for just two shots as the game went to a second period of extra time. Again, neither team was able to score as the contest ended in a 2-2 tie.
Goalkeeper
Haley Jones made six saves in 106 minutes after entering the game in the first half. Taylor Dodson made seven saves in all 110 minutes on Wednesday.
The Monarchs held a 19-16 advantage in shots, including a 9-8 edge in shots on goal. MU also edged Ferrum in corner kicks by a 3-2 margin.
Methodist returns to action tomorrow, Oct. 20, against Averett at the Monarch Soccerplex beginning at 3 pm.
