FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Methodist women's soccer team earned a 3-0 victory against Averett on Senior Day at the Monarch Soccerplex on Thursday evening.
With the win, the Monarchs improve to 6-5-2 on the year behind a 6-2-2 mark in league play. Meanwhile, the Cougars fall to 8-8 overall with a 6-6 record in conference action.
Sara Snotherly notched the first goal of the game for MU at the 11:59 mark after taking a pass from
Jasmine Newman, 1-0. The Monarch defense held the Cougars to just two shots in the first half, including the final 37 minutes without an attempt.
In the second half, MU extended the lead after
Miranda Cowardin played a ball through to
Kortney Maggard in the 59th minute. Barely 30 seconds later,
Capri Clark notched another goal with an assist from
Jasmine Newman to increase the deficit to 3-0.
Goalkeeper
Catie Gaughan (2-0) tallied the win after recording three saves in 90 minutes. Bailee Brown (8-8) took the loss after making 10 saves in 90 minutes.
The Monarchs outshot the Cougars by a 24-8 margin and held a 9-0 edge in corner kicks.
Methodist returns to action Saturday, Oct. 22, as it travels to Raleigh, N.C. to play William Peace at 2 pm.
