RALEIGH, N.C. – The Methodist women's soccer team earned a 3-1 victory at William Peace in USA South Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Monarchs improve to 7-5-2 and hold a 7-2-2 record in league play. Meanwhile, the Pacers fall to 3-15-1 behind a 2-11 mark in conference play.
The first goal of the game came from
Capri Clark in the 32nd minute with an assist from
Jasmine Newman. William Peace responded at the 39:01 mark when Alyssa Gasperini notched a goal to tie the game, 1-1, which was the halftime score.
In the second half,
Sara Snotherly posted her third goal of the season after receiving a pass from Newman to give MU a 2-1 lead in the 67th minute. At the 82:26 mark,
Taylor Cavazos registered a goal with an assist from
Kortney Maggard to make the score 3-1.
The Monarchs outshot the Pacers by a 29-3 margin. MU also held an 11-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Goalkeeper
Catie Gaughan (3-0) earned the win after not allowing a goal in just over 72 minutes in net. Shannon Maddex (3-15-1) took the loss despite making 12 saves.
The Monarchs close the regular season tomorrow, Oct. 23, as it travels to face Greensboro at 4 pm.
