FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Methodist men's soccer team posted a 5-2 win against Piedmont at the Monarch Soccerplex on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Monarchs snap a three-game losing streak and improve to 6-6-1 overall with a 4-3 conference mark. Meanwhile, the Lions fall to 8-7-1 behind a 4-5 league record.
The scoring started early in the first half when
Fredrik Aalberg notched his eighth goal of the year at the 5:28 mark after receiving a pass in the box and going around a defender before beating the keep top right. Near the end of the first half,
Austin Lang extended the lead after Aalberg played a ball through multiple defenders in the 41st minute, 2-0, which held through halftime.
The Lions got on the board at the 60:04 mark after Tommy Hill took a loose ball and beat the keeper to his left, 2-1. Aalberg tallied his second goal of the day with an assist from
Seth Harrison in the 62nd minute, 3-1. At the 82:45 mark,
Kristoffer Skarstein registered a goal after connecting on a bicycle kick on a bouncing ball after a corner kick, 4-1. A little over a minute later, Victor Munoz cut the deficit to 4-2.
Honore Nshimiye scored his first goal of the year with an assist from
Peter Skoett in the 89th minute to give the Monarchs a 5-2 victory.
Methodist outshot Piedmont by a 26-10 margin, while also edging in corner kicks, 8-3.
Goalkeeper
Scott Brecke (1-2) tallied his first win after recording two saves in 90 minutes. Elliot Sailes took the loss after making nine saves on Saturday.
The Monarchs return to action tomorrow, Oct. 23, at the Monarch Soccerplex for Senior Day against Maryville at 2 pm.
