NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Methodist women's basketball team dropped a 100-50 decision at No. 15 Christopher Newport on Tuesday evening.

Shelly McDonald each scored 15 points to lead the Monarchs. McDonald shot 7 of 13 from the field and pulled down eight rebounds.
Jalisia Campbell chipped in three assists, three steals and a pair of blocked shots.
CNU, which shot 47.6 percent as a team (39-82) was led by Erin Carroll's 18 points. She was one of four captains to score in double figures as Madison Howdyshell and Jessica Daguilh each scored 15 points, and Stephanie Seaman added 13 points and eight assists. Howdyshell added nine boards, and Daguilh pulled down eight rebounds.
Christopher Newport scored 30 points in each of the first two quarters and raced out to a 60-24 lead by halftime. CNU closed out the first period on a 20-6 run to turn a 10-5 lead into a 30-11 edge. The Captains scored the first seven points of the second quarter and pulled away steadily from there.
CNU's offense was bolstered by a 56-33 edge on the glass, including 24-11 on the offensive glass. The Captains also recorded 24 assists on 39 made field goals, shot 9 of 20 (.450) from beyond the arc and hit on 13 of 19 free throws (.684).
Methodist returns to action on Saturday against Sewanee on the first day of the Transylvania Thanksgiving Tournament at 5:00 pm.
