Methodist Clips Oglethorpe, 85-59

ATLANTA, Ga. -- Davion Ayabarreno poured in 26 points and Bryan Rouse added 18 as the Methodist men's basketball team rolled over Oglethorpe 85-59 for its fifth straight win on Thursday evening at Dorough Field House.
 
Ayabarreno shot 11 of 18 from the field and added six rebounds as MU moved above .500 at 6-5 overall. The Stormy Petrels fell to 3-7 on the season. The 26 points for Ayabarreno are the second most that he has scored in game this season and moved his scoring average to 18.4 points per game. In addition to Ayabarreno and Rouse, Rae Hall added 14 points and four assists and Jackson Whitely chipped in nine points, 10 rebounds, four assists and four blocks.
 
Justin Edwards led Oglethorpe with 18 points, and Drew Patrick scored 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds.
 
Methodist, which shot 50.0 percent for the game (31-62), led never trailed in the contest and benefited from a pair of lead-bolstering runs in each half. Leading 17-11 with 12:07 to play in the first period, the Monarchs scored 10 straight points to assume a 27-11 lead with 6:46 left in the first half en route to a 35-22 lead at break.
 
In the second period, after Oglethorpe had trimmed its deficit to eight points (37-29), MU used a 12-2 run to take a 49-31 lead. The Monarchs lead grew to as many as 30 points down the stretch. The Green and Gold limited Oglethorpe to 37.7 percent shooting (23-61), out rebounded the Petrels 42-30, and forced 19 turnovers.
 
The Monarchs take on Sewanee on Friday at 2:00 pm.
