FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist women's basketball team rode a strong third-quarter to a 62-50 win over Hollins on Tuesday evening in the March F. Riddle Center.

Following a 24-24 deadlock at halftime, the Monarch (2-6) doubled up Hollins (2-4) in the third period, outscoring HU 24-12 for a 48-36 lead entering the fourth period. The Monarchs were 9 of 10 shooting in the third period alone, and held Hollins to a 4 for 17 mark (.235).
Kaneya Chambers scored all eight of her points in the third quarter to spearhead MU's offense.

Hollins actually recorded the first points in the third quarter on a two of Jewellanna Parfitt's game-high 17 points before MU harassed Hollins into five straight missed shots and just two points over the next 4:46. The Green and Gold seized control of the game by outscoring Hollins 13-4 over the final 3:54 of the quarter.

The decisive third quarter was in stark contrast to the other three stanzas which featured 38 points from each team. For the game, MU hit 44.0 percent (22-50) of its shot attempts from the floor, including knocking down a season-high eight three pointers in the contest. Hollins shot just 31.7 percent (20-63) from the field and 43.8 percent (7-18) from the line and was outrebounded, 45-33. Â

Jalisia Campbell collected her second consecutive double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds, while
Christian Sanders scored a team-high 14 points, including 4 of 8 shooting from beyond the arc.
Lillian Geehring added 10 points and five rebounds and
Breanna Evans contributed six points and five boards off the bench.

In addition to Parfitt's 17 points, she pulled down a team-best seven rebounds to go with four assists and four steals. Sally Sroge added 10 points, and Nicollette Valencia scored nine points and handed out four assists with four steals as well.

The Monarchs return to play on Dec. 17 at the Olgethorpe Classic against the host Petrels at 6:00 pm.
