Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

MU Women's Lacrosse Falters at Guilford, 12-10

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Guilford rallied from a halftime deficit to knock off the MU women's lacrosse team, 12-10, on Saturday.

The Monarchs (1-1) held a 6-4 lead, but saw the Quakers (1-0) rally in the second half for the win.

Guilford opened the second half by scoring the first five goals to take a 9-6 lead with 12:27 to play. Marina Bailey and Amanda Dionne scored two goals apiece, and Kelly Martin capped the burst off a feed from Dionne. 

Methodist got back into the game with back-to-back goals from Emily Brennen and Kaelyn Holland to make it 9-8 by the 9:04 mark, but three straight tallies by the Quakers made it 12-8 with three more scores, including another tally from Baily, with just over six minutes to play.

Sareena Coleman and Brennen scored for the Monarchs to get MU within two (12-10) with over three minutes to play, but Guilford was able to hang on for the win. 

Guilford outshot MU, 25-21, and won the turnover battle, forcing 26 miscues while committing 21. GC also boasted a slight edge in ground balls, 20-18. Methodist claimed 15 draw controls to the Quakers' eight.

Madison Ronelli led MU with three goals and eight draw controls and three caused turnovers. Brennen had two goals and an assist, Coleman had a goal and two assists, and Holland scored twice to go with three draw controls and three caused turnovers. Emily Ewin played the first 30 minutes in the cage and made two saves with four goals allowed. Jannelle Gant took the loss in goal after allowing eight goals with five saves in the final 30 minutes. 

Bailey led Guilford with five goals and Dionne had three goals and one assist. Demming Carlow had four ground balls, as did Sammi Milbourn.

Methodist hosts Saint Vincent on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
