FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Shane Soghomonian's goal as time expired lifted the Randolph men's lacrosse team to a 7-6 win over Methodist on Saturday afternoon at Monarch Stadium.

With the game tied at 7-7, Randolph (2-0) gained possession in the waning seconds and managed to call time out with five seconds to play. Out of the stoppage, Soghomonian raced behind the cage to his right and curled around, slipping a shot past
Jackson Bingham as the final horn sounded to give the WildCats the win.

After taking a 4-2 lead at halftime, the Monarchs (1-3) saw Randolph score the first three goals of the second half, including two by Mitch MacDonald, to take a 5-4 lead at the 12:51 mark of the fourth quarter.
Ty Haith tied the game at 5-5 just over a minute later, but two more tallied by Randolph gave the visitors a 7-5 advantage with 7:17 left.

Kyle Clarkson for Clarkson's second goal of the game at 5:50 to make it 7-6, and 59 seconds later
Andrew Ruskey scored with a man advantage to tie the game at 7-7 and 4:51 on the clock.

The Monarchs had possession with under two minutes to play and called time out. A shot by
Jake Smerka was saved with 1:22 to play, and Clarkson's shot with 39 seconds left was blocked. Clarkson was able to pick up the ground ball, and with 12 ticks left Ruskey hit the post on what would have been a potential game-winning shot before Randolph's final tally.

The Monarchs dominated the stat sheet, out shooting Randolph, 44-38, winning 12 of 18 faceoffs, picking up 35 ground balls to the WildCats' 21 and turning the ball over four fewer times (16-20). However, the Randolph duo of Cam Davis and Matt Lindenbaum made 18 saves on the day to keep MU from pulling away.

Jay Robinson led the Monarchs with four points (2g, 2a) and added five ground balls, and three caused turnovers. Clarkson scored twice, and Haith had a goal, an assist and two ground balls.
Jordan DeSalvo was 12 for 18 at the faceoff X and picked up seven ground Balls. Bingham played all 60 minutes in the cage and made nine saves for the Monarchs.

MacDonald, Corey Nehlig and Sogohomonian all had a pair of goals for Randolph, and MacDonald added a pair of assists as well. Andrew Risse had five ground balls, and Ryan Campbell picked up three. Davis played the first half in goal and made nine saves with four goals allowed, while Lindenbaum played the final 30 minutes and also made nine saves while allowing three goals.
