FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist baseball team got back on the winning track with a sweep of Greensboro on Friday afternoon at Armstrong-Shelley Field.

Methodist (8-7, 2-3 USA South) limited the Pride (5-15, 2-3 USA South) offense in game one, earning a 4-1 win, before erupting for 15 runs in a 15-5 win in the nightcap.

Travis Johnson improved to 3-1 on the season, allowing just one run in 8.0 innings in the opener. He gave up seven hits and one walk while striking out nine.Â
Nick Norton earned his second save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning.

Greensboro scored its lone run off of Johnson in the fourth inning on Kyle Willard's RBI single to left that brought in J.P Lisk before MU's offense got on track.

Ray Lanners drew a two-out walk in the sixth, and scored when
Davis Cass laced a triple to right center to tie the game at 1-1.
Tyler Hardee followed with a single through the left side and Cass scored to make it 2-0. Prior to the sixth inning, MU had just three hits on the day.

In the eighth inning,
Stephen Nalls doubled with one out and Lanners was intentionally walked. A deep flyout by Cass moved Nalls to third base and Lanners followed with a steal of second. Hardee followed with a double to right to bring home both runners for a 4-1 lead.

Adam Murray took the loss for the Pride, allowing two runs on five hits and a pair of walks with four strikeouts in 6.0 innings. Mason Sawicki gave up two runs on two hits in 2.0 innings of relief.

Nalls and Hardee each had a pair of base hits, and Lanners was 1-for-2 with a pair of walks. Hardee drove in three of MU's runs, and Lanners scored twice.

Lisk was 3-for-4 with a run for Greensboro, and Willard had two hits in four at bats.

In the nightcap, MU pounded out 17 hits and scored 12 runs over the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to overcome an early 4-1 deficit. Hardee picked up the win on the mound (2-1) giving up five runs on nine hits with three strikeouts in 6.0 innings.

After falling behind 4-1 after one inning of play, MU took a 6-4 lead with five runs in the fourth. The Monarchs quickly loaded the bases on a Cass single, a Hardee walk and
Colin Ford was hit by a pitch. Following a pitching change,
Pete Wildeboer greeted GC's Hunter Wolfington with a single to left that scored Cass.

Alex Dockery followed with a two-run double.
Lucas Scott added a sacrifice fly and Nalls had an RBI single.

The Pride got a run back in the top of the fifth, but MU added four in the bottom half, including a two-run triple by
Alex Rodriguez, to take a 10-5 lead. The Green and Gold added three runs in the sixth for a 13-5 lead. Nalls made it 14-5 with a solo home run in the seventh, and Dockery had a sacrifice fly in the eighth to cap the scoring.

Josh Evans started for Greensboro and lasted just 3.0 innings. He gave up four runs on four hits and a pair of walks. Wolfington was tagged with the loss, allowing two runs in 0.2 innings.

Madison Cook and
Logan Haines combined for 3.0 scoreless innings in relief for Methodist.

Wildeboer was a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate for MU. He tripled, drove in two and scored four runs. Cass was 3-for-4 with a pair of runs, Nalls was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run, while Roeriguez and Scott each drove in two.

Brandon Soden was 3-for-5 with a run for Greensboro, and Lisk and Andrew Ray each had a pair of base hits with Ray adding three RBIs.

Methodist will look for the sweep on Saturday when game three starts at 2:00 pm.
