FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Methodist rallied from a four-goal deficit in the fourth quarter, but fell short in a 14-13 loss in men's lacrosse to Wesley on Saturday afternoon.

The Monarchs (3-5) trailed 14-10 with under 10 minutes to play, before three consecutive goals in just over three minutes pulled MU to within 14-13 with 7:15 on the clock. The Green and Gold had three shots on goal the rest of the way, including
Kyle Clarkson's attempt with 1:17 to play. Cody Ireland made saves on two of MU's final three shots, and following the final save the Wolverines (3-4) were able to run out the clock to seal the win.

Wesley took a 2-0 lead in the game's early going before the Green and Gold came back to take a 4-3 lead on
Andrew Ruskey's goal with 9:58 to play in the second quarter. Ryan Ramsey tied it at 4-4 off a feed from Jack Redefer before Clarkson scored three of the game's next four goals as MU took a 7-5 lead into halftime.

Wesley outscored MU 8-3 in the third quarter and added the first goal of the fourth period for the aforementioned four-goal lead with 11:44 on the clock.

Methodist outshot Wesley, 42-36, won 20-of-28 faceoffs and collected 40 ground balls to Wesley's 23, but Ireland made 14 saves to keep Wesley in the game and earn the win.
Jackson Bingham made eight saves for the Monarchs.

Jay Robinson, Clarkson and Smerka all had three goals and an assist for the Monarchs.
Jordan DeSalvo won 20-of-27 faceoffs and added a goal scored and nine ground balls. Robinson collected seven ground balls and
Kyle Peacock had four.

Redefer had four goals and a pair of assists to lead Wesley, and Sam Seibert and Hunter Coho each scored three goals. Jason Berry had four ground balls, and Will Fingles and Jordan Stewart each had three.

Methodist returns to the field on Wednesday when it hosts Alfred State at 4:00 pm.
