GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Methodist baseball team fought hard on Thursday afternoon, and emerged victorious, 8-7, after 10 innings over host Guilford College.

Down 2-0 after the first inning, the Monarchs (11-7) knotted up the score 2-2 in the top of the second.
Davis Cass led off with a single to shortstop and after the Quakers (11-9) struck out
Ray Lanners,
Tyler Hardee drew a walk to put runners in scoring position. The next batter,
Pete Wildeboer, doubled down the left-field line to score Cass and then a groundout out by
Alex Dockery scored Hardee.

Guilford regained the lead in the home half of the third, 4-2, scoring on a throwing error by Methodist and a ground-rule double by Joe Metts.

The Monarchs gained their first lead of the game in the fourth, tallying three runs on two hits. Hardee drew a lead-off walk and then a single by Wildeboer advanced him to third. A double by
Alex Dockery plated Hardee and then a ground out by
Adam Gunn allowed Wildeboer to score, tying the game 4-4.
Alex Rodriguez sent a sacrifice fly out to center to score Dockery, and the Monarchs went ahead, 5-4.

Methodist tacked on two more runs in the fifth, and gained a 7-4 advantage, scoring on and RBI single by Wildeboer and a walk by Gunn with the bases loaded.

Guilford tallied single runs in the seventh and eighth innings, and then forced extra innings after tying the game in the ninth with a Metts single to left field.

In the top of the 10th, Lanners singled to center and a sacrifice bunt by Hardee pushed him to second. Jake Watkins successfully struck out Wildeboer before Dockery singled to center, scoring Lanners for the eventually winning score of 8-7.

Dockery finished 4-for-5 with three RBI and scored once and Wildeboer was 3-for-6 with two BRI and a run scored. Gunn tallied two RBI and Rodriguez recorded one.

For Guilford, Metts was 3-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored and Chuck Noble was 3-for-5 with an RBI and scored run.

Relief pitcher
Logan Haines (1-0) earned his first win of the year after tossing the final 1.0 innings, allowing one hit.
Ross Leggett started for the Green and Gold and pitched the first 2.0 innings, allowing two runs on two hits.
Noah Dawson and
Thomas Dean also pitched 2.0 innings each, and
Greg Johnson,
Aaron O'Neil and
Nick Norton each pitched a full inning.

Watkins (0-1) was given the loss after pitching the final 1.0 innings and allowing one run on two hits.

The Monarchs will play again on Friday as they begin a USA South series with William Peace starting at 4:00 pm.
