Women's Lacrosse Topples LaGrange, 14-6

LAGRANGE, Ga. -- A dominant second-half led MU's women's lacrosse team to a 14-6 win at LaGrange on Sunday afternoon at Panther Field.
 
Leading by two at the break (5-3), the Monarchs opened the second half by scoring five straight goals and outscored the Panthers, 9-3, over the final 30 minutes.
 
Emily Brennen started the scoring just 1:25 into the final period when she converted a feed from Madison Ronelli to make it 6-3. Kaelyn Holland scored unassisted roughly two minutes later for a 7-3 lead before Brennen scored on a Zhane' Ruffin assist for an 8-3 lead at the 26:18 mark.
 
Ronelli added an unassisted goal and then found Brennen for another score for a 10-3 lead with 21:34 to play as MU put the game out of reach.
 
The second-half surge was part of a dominant showing by the Monarchs. MU out shot LaGrange, 35-12, including 27-12 in shots on goal, forced 15 turnovers while committing just four and won 11-of-18 draw controls.
 
Brennen led MU with four goals, and Ronelli had three goals and two assists. Sareena Coleman scored twice. Ronelli and Brennen had three ground balls apiece, and Ronelli led MU with three draw controls. Coleman added a pair of draw controls and two caused turnovers.
 
Jannelle Gant played all 60:00 in the cage and made four saves on the day to earn the win. Kallie Brook made 13 saves for the Panthers and allowed 14 goals in 60:00.
 
Alexis Dillard had four goals for the Panthers, and Sydney Garmany added two scores. Rachael Thomas had four draw controls and Madeline LaCavera chipped in six ground balls.
 
The Monarchs return home to host Greensboro on Wednesday beginning at 4:30 pm.
