Monarchs Fly Past BlueJays, 13-1

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Methodist women's lacrosse team held Elmhurst to just four shots in produing a 13-1 win over the BlueJays on Friday afternoon at Monarch Stadium.
 
Madison Ronelli scored four goals and Emily Brennen had five assists as MU improved to 7-5 on the season. The BlueJays fell to 1-4.
 
Brennen set up the first two goals of the game, feeding Bianca Terenzi at 25:57 for a 1-0 lead, then finding Renee Burt to make it 2-0 at the 20:07 mark. Sareena Coleman scored twice sandwiched around a goal from Ronelli to put MU up 5-0 by the 10:16 mark of the first half.
 
Brennen fed Ronelli at 6:34 to make it 6-0 and the lead reached 7-0 as Burt found Yasmin Martin for a goal at the 4:35 mark. Brennen's fourth assist of the period led to a Sarah Ewin goal, and Zhane' Ruffin closed out the half with a pair of goals to give MU a 10-0 lead going into halftime.
 
In addition to outshooting Elmhurst 35-4, the Monarchs forced 29 turnovers and came away with 32 ground balls. Elmhurst was also held to just 9-for-26 on clear attempts, and MU was 9-of-10.
 
Jannelle Gant started in the cage and was not forced to make a save for MU. Molly O'Hara played the second half and allowed one goal with a pair of saves. Grace Knoebel made 10 saves for the BlueJays.
 
Brennen and Martin each had five ground balls for MU, and Ronelli had four to go with four caused turnovers. Ewin also caused four turnovers, and Sarena Pillow led the Monarchs with two draw controls.
 
Phoebe LeRoy scored for Elmhurst, and Knoebel had five ground balls and three caused turnovers. Annette Stidham and Jamie Lawinger had four and three draw controls respectively.
 
Methodist next plays at Meredith on Wednesday beginning at 6:00 pm.
