RALEIGH, N.C. -- Meredith defeated the Methodist women's lacrosse team, 23-10, on Wednesday evening at the Meredith Athletic Field.

The Avenging Angels (11-1, 5-0 USA South) scored eight goals in the last nine minutes of the first half to turn a two-goal game (7-5) into a 15-6 lead by halftime to cruise past the Monarchs (7-6, 3-3).

Sareena Coleman, who led the Monarchs with four goals, scored unassisted to pull MU within 7-5 at the 8:42 mark of the first half. Meredith needed just 20 seconds to get the goal back as Victoria Doyle made gave the hosts an 8-5 lead. Jennifer Halvorson added goal as she scored off a feed from Carlee Joseph at the 5:28 mark.

The Monarchs remained close as
Madison Ronelli scored off an assist from
Renee Burt with 4:51 on the clock, but six more goals from Meredith, including four on free-position shots made it 15-6 at the break. Methodist was not able to make a run in the second half and MC scored five of the game's last six goals.

The Avenging Angels took 49 shots to 18 for the Monarchs. Meredith was also granted 16 free position shots to just four for the Monarchs and held a 21-13 edge in draw controls.

Ronelli finished with two goals and an assist for MU, and
Sarena Pillow scored twice.
Kari de La Viez had three caused turnovers and Pillow came away with four ground balls.

Joseph had six goals and five assists for Meredith, and Doyle contributed five goals. Katie Burnett had eight draw controls.

Methodist plays host to Coker on Saturday beginning at 2:00 pm.
